Short Term Accommodation & Respite

Taking a short holiday is really exciting! We want it to be special, so we make it all about you. You can stay at our places or choose from hotels, resorts, Airbnb, or even quick day trips. With our Short Term Accommodation (STA) package, we help plan activities you love, like going to the beach, seeing a movie, going to a music festival, or doing your favourite things. It’s all your choice! STA, also called Respite, is like a fun break from your usual routine. You get to meet new people, try and learn new things. Plus, it can give your parents or caregivers a little break too, depending on your situation.

How we support you

As part of our Short-Term Accommodation & Respite services, we will assist with:

Meals & nutrition

We'll work with you to create a meal plan that makes sure you get the right meals and nutrition when you're not at home.

Personal care

Our team can help you with personal care like using the toilet, taking a shower, and getting dressed while you're away.

Taking medication

We can assist you in keeping track of your medications and create a medication management plan to help you with them.

Manage behaviours of concern

If there are any behaviours of concern, our team is trained to manage these situations, working together with your Positive Behaviour Support expert to find the best solutions.

Frequently asked questions

Sometimes called Respite, Short Term Accommodation (STA) is an NDIS-funded service that allows you to live away from home for a short period of time. This service is designed to provide people with a disability, injury or illness a break from their formal and informal support networks, to experience new things and learn new skills in a safe and welcoming environment. This service can also be used to give parents and carers a short break from their caring responsibilities.
Generally you do not need funding for Short Term Accommodation put into your NDIS plan. NDIS participants may use funding from the Core budget flexible on supports like Short Term Accommodation if it helps you pursue your goals. If you’d like to use your Core Support funding flexibly to access STA but you’re not sure how to do so, please contact us and we would be happy to help.
Depending on your circumstances and level of support, you can access our STA & Respite services for up to 14 days at a time, up to a limit of 28 days per year. You can also use your funding flexibly to attend day trips with a support worker for example, or to attend a function or event overnight with supports.

Step 2

Make an Access Request

To start your application, call the NDIS at 0492 020 125

If you need assistance, reach out to your Local Area Coordinator, Early Childhood Early Intervention partner, the local National Disability Insurance Agency, or Breakthru for support.

Step 3

Gather Supporting Evidence

This may involve sharing details about your disability and how it affects your daily life.

Providing recent information and collaborating with your healthcare providers can strengthen your case for NDIS eligibility.

Step 4

Prepare for your planning meeting

Once the Access Request decision is done, you’ll receive a written notice of the decision.

Afterward, you’ll meet with an NDIS community partner to determine the support level for your NDIS plan.
